Position: Head of PMO

Suitable for: Head of PMO / Lead PMO / Senior PMO. 5 years experience. 

Location: Flexible

Salary: To £60k

Our client is a successful software supplier within the healthcare sector creating products that change communication and improve efficiency within the sector. They have an immediate requirement for a Head of PMO.

Experience/Attributes/Skills Required:

The Head of PMO is a senior role requiring a person with the profile detailed below:

  • Degree educated or equivalent (significant work experience may be acceptable as a substitute for academic qualifications)
  • Solid background as either a Head of PMO or lead PMO and a background within project and programme management
  • Project Management methodologies – PRINCE2 an advantage
  • Practical experience in the delivery of large-scale IT led business change projects
  • A successful and proven track record in working to tight deadlines in a busy challenging environment
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • Experience of working in a consultancy role and or communication with key stakeholders at board level in client organisations
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills both orally and in writing
  • Good negotiating skills and commercial awareness
  • Good people management skills
  • Ability to communicate and organise effectively at all levels; management, clerical and clinical
  • Ability to organise and co-ordinate areas of work for yourself and others
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and planning skills
  • Self-started with great determination and motivation to succeed
  • Good time management and planning skills
  • Good teamwork, person-management, and motivational skills
  • Able to work away from home and willingness to travel is essential


  • Advanced MSPP skills an advantage

The Role:

  • Management of the Programme Office
  • Line management of the PMO Team
  • Establishing and ensuring effective project and programme governance and processes
  • Setting up the structures of the PMO
  • Supporting the programme office team in the delivery of projects
  • Provide support and guidance to the programme/project managers
  • Prepare, produce, and present regular progress and dashboard reports
  • Supporting risk and issue management, highlight reporting and project planning
  • Responsible for keeping all project documentation up to date
  • Drafting new and improving existing project management office policies and processes.
  • Continuously evaluating projects to ensure they are meeting company standards, adhering to budgets, and meeting deadlines.
  • Reuse project learning and knowledge
  • To be responsible for leading and supporting the building of a common set of project tools
  • To be responsible for analysing interdependencies between projects and recommending actions to prioritise/revisit priorities to ensure delivery of best added value. 
  • Ensuring standardised approach to the management of projects
  • Create and maintain a structured document management system for internal and customer facing material for the Deployment Business Unit
  • Responsible for ISO 13485 compliance with Deployment
