Our client is looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to lead the DevOps function and deliver client and project deliverables. This is a new opportunity to work in a cutting-edge delivery environment that uses a mix of cloud-based serverless and containerised deployment technologies, alongside advanced on-premise GPU compute capability.

Experience/Attributes:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience as DevOps Engineer, Cloud Engineer, Platform Engineer or similar with experience of AWS and Azure
  • DevOps expertise working particularly with AWS or Azure and Ansible or Terraform
  • Strong commercial experience managing complex multi-tier enterprise infrastructure environments and cloud monitoring
  • Serverless compute concepts
  • In-depth configuration management, automation and scripting skills including use of a scripting language such as Python or Ruby, proficiency with shell scripting (e.g. BASH)
  • In-depth knowledge of platform and application automated deployment technologies
  • AWS/Azure Kubernetes and Containerisation (Docker)
  • Exposure to iterative/agile development methodologies – including Atlassian toolset
  • Exposure to continuous integration and build tools
  • Use of source code version control
  • Linux/Unix system administration skills
  • Understanding of software and infrastructure architecture
  • Good database knowledge and SQL skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in non-technical language

 

Desirable:

  • Ideally, the Lead DevOps Engineer will have client-facing experience gained from a technical consultancy or software vendor
  • Experience working directly with executive and director level management
  • Technical leadership of multiple development squads

The Role:

The Lead DevOps Engineer will;

  • Lead a growing and talented DevOps team with a view to mentoring the continued team development,
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day technical aspects of a project, both internally and at client sites.
  • Work collaboratively with client teams to understand their requirements, design innovative Cloud or Hybrid architectures to ensure successful delivery of the projects across the whole DevOps arena.
  • The Lead DevOps Engineer will be comfortable taking responsibility for creating secure development and production environments, the build, release, deployment, configuration and support of key products and projects.
  • Have the confidence and ability to actively participate in technical architecture, strategy and process definition discussions.
  • Manage, support, maintain and improve the project’s infrastructure, IaC automation, continuous integration system and application release processes.
  • Act as a bridge between operations and development teams, lead on automating the rollout of applications.
  • A servant-leader mindset - to work with project squads, drive team interactions.
  • A delivery approach – support, motivate and nurture – working within Agile Frameworks and Methodologies for continuous improvements across the full agile end-to-end lifecycle.
  • Manage and maintain development and support systems such as GitLab, GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines
